Grant Opportunities – Internews in the Balkans

At Internews, we believe everyone deserves trustworthy news and information to make informed decisions about their lives and hold power to account. We train journalists and digital rights activists, tackle disinformation, and offer business expertise to help media outlets become financially sustainable. We do all of this in partnership with local communities – who are the people best placed to know what works.

We support independent media in 100 countries, from radio stations in refugee camps, to hyper-local news outlets, to individual activists and reporters. We’ve helped our partners reach millions of people with quality, local information that saves lives, improves livelihoods, and holds institutions accountable.

We currently implement five programs in the Western Balkans region, and four programs are currently offering different funding opportunities and grants to media outlets, civil society organizations and individuals:

1. The Balkan Media Assistance Program to Foster Organizational Readiness While Advancing Resilient Development” (BMAP Forward) is funded by USAID and implemented by Internews as part of the PROGRESS Human Rights Support Mechanism

Eligible Countries: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia

Open to: BMAP Forward Key Media Partners, individuals, media outlets and other registered entities

Application Deadline: Currently Accepting Applications

Next review cycle: February, 2023. 

2. The USAID Media Engagement Activity (MEA) project is implemented by Internews in partnership with FHI 360

Eligible Countries: Bosnia and Herzegovina

Open to: Locally registered media and individual content creators

Application Deadline: January 12, 2023.

3. Cultivating Local Independent Media in the Balkans (CLIMB) implemented by Internews

Eligible Countries: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia

Open to: Locally registered media outlets, media literacy organizations, and individual content producers

Application Deadline: 11 January 2023 at 17:00 CET 

4. Illuminating New Solutions and Programmatic Innovations for Resilient Spaces (INSPIRES)

Eligible Countries: Albania

Open to: Locally registered media outlets

Application Deadline: 11 January 2023 at 17:00 CET
